Interview with Kitchen Twins

Interview with Kitchen Twins

Looking at the roster of experience of the Kitchen Twins, you would think that they are at least twice their age. However, the twin sisters, Emily and Lyla Allen, are only 14 years old. With their passion for food and cooking, the girls have managed to be on national TV several times, have their own food blog and even have a cookbook in the making! We decided to chat with the girls to learn more about their story.

In this interview, you will learn more about how they became the Kitchen Twins, where their passion for food stems from, and their advice to other twins.

Who you are and what you do?

We are Emily and Lyla, 14 year old twins called the Kitchen-Twins. We are teen chefs who want to share our love of healthy, whole food cooking with kids and their families. We have appeared on Rachael Ray, Chopped Junior, The Today Show, and a few other tv shows and a FoodNetwork.com feature. We are currently working on a cookbook to further spread our love of cooking.

How did you get started?

We got started because our parents were natural food entrepreneurs and when they were in the kitchen, we were in the kitchen soaking up their knowledge hoping to one day surpass them; which at this point we have ( :
We also got started because on Christmas day we would always make cookies and sour cream coffee cake both of which we make today. We started cooking as toddlers and it really boosted our love of being in the kitchen and cooking in general.

When we were 9, we started our blog and entered a local Shark Tank competition. When they called our names for first place we stood on the stage shocked because we had entered this to show people what our passion was and never thought of winning. Us winning that competition boosted our confidence and things skyrocketed from there.
Twinning Store Interview with the Kitchen Twins
When you argue, how long does it take for you to become friends?
Usually our arguments are very short-lived. Even if they are heated, we become friends within 20-30 minutes depending on the fight. We are each others built-in-best-friend and so it is hard to not be friends with one another and stop talking.

Would you consider being a twin a strength or weakness?
We would consider being a twin a strength because if someone is being mean to the other twin we stick up for each other and always have lets say “twice the power.” With a twin you always have someone to talk to and you are constantly with your best friend, imagine that, sounds awesome right? Well it is awesome!

If another twin walked up to asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?
We would say let arguments go because not having a twin would be awful. Be nice to each other and make sure to make up your own code - we have and it is a lot of fun!

Thank you, Emily and Lyla! We can’t wait to see your cookbook when it is ready. Keep doing what you do, because it's so important. You are true twinfluencers
