Twin Mom Insights from Darlene Brisse

Twin Mom Insights from Darlene Brisse

Twin mom, Darlene Brisse, is one of those people where your first thought is, how does she do it? With her adorable boy/girl twins she is so much fun to follow on Instagram. But how is it to be a stay-at-home with twins?

We needed to know and got to know the behind-the-scenes dealings of her twin mom journey.

In our interview with Darlene, you will learn the her thoughts on the twin bond, her experience as a first time mom, and what twin myths she thinks needs to be clarified. (And she helped us with a new twin mom design - how cool is that?)

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?

I’m a chef, nurse, musician, housekeeper, expert stain remover, fort engineer, art teacher, body guard, paparazzi, EXPERT diaper changer, personal stylist, toy repair expert, monster catcher, and most importantly of all I am a stay at home mommy to twins.

WHAT FASCINATES YOU THE MOST ABOUT TWINS (ESPECIALLY YOUR OWN)?

The most fascinating thing about twins is the bond they have. My twins are always together. They don’t like to be apart so much so that they climb into each other’s crib. They talk to each other in the most incredible way. No one understands what they are saying but they must be saying something funny because they both laugh.

WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU THE MOST ABOUT YOUR TWINS?

I was a first time mom. Like all first time moms you go into motherhood wanting everything to be perfect.

“I’ve gotta set up the nursery before they come”, (that they won’t sleep in until they are 9 months) “is this organic, non gmo” (yes dirt and sand are organic. I can’t tell you how many times a day I tell my twins not to eat something or pick things up off the floor and put it in their mouths).

“Dr. the twins were in the bath and one of them pooped and the other was drinking the water. Do I need to take them to the emergency room, can they get salmonella” (They can’t!)

“Dr. we were at the park and as I was chasing after one twin, the other put a bandaid in their mouth. I have the bandaid in a ziplock baggie.” (me while in the parking lot of the hospital).

My doctor finally said “if they are moving around playing and happy just take the object out of their mouths give them something to drink and watch for any signs of them feeling sick. The experience was worst for you than them.”

Being a first time mommy you have so many fears, being a mommy of twins, doubles those fears.

WHAT IS THE NUMBER ONE MYTH ABOUT HAVING TWINS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DEBUNK?

Every day is a new surprise. As a new mommy every day seems to be something new and so exciting. From their first smile to the great communication they have with each other their “secret language”

WHAT IS THE NUMBER ONE MYTH ABOUT HAVING TWINS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DEBUNK?

Not all twins are identical! “No my boy and girl twins are not identical”

It’s hard for people to understand that although they were born the same day they, are two very different little humans.

IS THERE ANY ADVICE ABOUT HAVING TWINS YOU WISH YOU HAD BEEN GIVEN?

Everything will be ok. You can go out in public with your twins alone. You can do mommy and me classes, twice the work, twice the fun. You can do anything that a mommy with a single baby can do it will just take a little more work. Double the work. Double the LOVE!

GIVEN YOUR ON-POINT TWIN MAMA STYLE, WHICH T-SHIRT DESIGN WOULD YOU SPORT?

The twin T-shirt I’d design would be one that said “Give me wine, I’m a mom of twins”.

Thank you, Darlene! We love your positive energy and inspiring attitude towards twin mom-hood.
