5 quick questions with twin sisters Ami and Aya of Amiaya
Ami and Aya are Japanese twin sisters who are taking over the world with their unique style and fashion. The twinning duo started with Harajuku street snaps and have since rose to fame with their bold, eccentric style. In addition to being style icons, the twin sisters have succeeded with numerous other creative endeavors, including modeling, music, and DJing under the name Amiaya. We recently had a chance to catch up with the twin sisters and are so excited to bring you this interview.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
AMI: We are twins based in Tokyo. We work as a model, DJ, and Creative Director.
AYA: We are twin sisters. We do work as models, Creative Directors, and DJs based in Japan.
2. How did you get started?
AMI: We started at the age of 15. Street snap is where it all started.
AYA: It all started at 15 when we moved to Tokyo following our dream.
Do you see being a twin as a strength or weakness in getting to where you are today?
AMI: Being a twin is our biggest strength. I think we were able to create the style we have now because we are twins. I am grateful for our fate of being twins, and treasure the fact that we are. There is no weakness to being a twin.
AYA: We were able to become who we are today because we used us being twins to the full extent. The answer was all within us. Being AMIAYA is all about being twins. And by attending fashion weeks around the world, we were able to realize our strengths, our weaknesses, and many other things.
3. What's your favorite twin moment?
AMI: The moments only “we” can feel. There is this world, these moments that only twins can understand, and I just love these moments.
AYA: Whenever the two of us are together. I can’t choose a favorite! I love them all!
When you argue, how long does it take for you to become friends?
AMI: Everyone gets surprised because one second we were fighting, but the next we are laughing. lol I guess maybe 1 day max when we get into a big fight? lol
AYA: Maybe after a minute or so, we make up or more like just go back to usual conversations. lol
4. What do you think everyone should know about being twins?
AMI: Although we are twins, we are each a different person. As is with anyone, twins each have their own personality and identity that should be respected.
AYA: Being a twin doesn’t mean we are all the same. We each have our own personality.
5. Our rapid-fire questions:
Who is the bossiest?
AMI: Both are bosses. lol
AYA: Both bosses. lol
Who is the messiest?
AMI: I’m not good at keeping clean.
AYA: I think we are both messy. But at the same time, we both like it clean so it’s chaos. lol
Who is most active on social media?
AMI: AYA!
AYA: Definitely me! –
Who is the shyer twin?
AMI: I don’t know.
AYA: Maybe when we were kids? lol
Who is the more adventurous twin?
AMI: We both want to live adventurously, so us both!
AYA: Us both! And as adventurous twins I would think of the Olsen twins. We used to watch Full House as little girls and admired them. They are now successful designers in the fashion industry. It’s inspirational how they continue to challenge themselves.
Lastly, is there an evil twin?
AMI: I’ve never met an evil twin. There might be a fairy-tale-like evil twin out there.
AYA: I think despite being a twin or not, everyone has an angelic and devilish side. We’ve met so many twins, but I always feel comfortable when I’m around twins. Maybe because twins have their own world and our vibes are really similar somehow.
