8 quick questions with Refinery 29's Lucy Fink and twin sister Allie Fink

8 quick questions with Refinery 29's Lucy Fink and twin sister Allie Fink

Interview with the Fink twins, Lucy and Allie Fink.

If you aren't already obsessed with Refinery 29's Lucie Fink and her incredible YouTube challenges, do yourself a favor and schedule some binge time. We discovered Lucie through her incredible Finding Your Voice TedTalk and have followed her since.

As that wasn't cool enough, Lucie has a twin sister, Allie, who is a badass in her own right. She has made a solid career for herself in a completely different industry, finance, working for some of the top companies in that space.

Having taken such different paths, the twin sisters still remain very close. We are thrilled that the twin sisters agreed to let us interview them about their experiences as twins. Enjoy!

1. Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Lucie and I’m a video producer and lifestyle host at Refinery29. I’m Allie and I’m a Leveraged Finance Sales & Trading Associate at Guggenheim.

2. How did you get started?

We both went to Johns Hopkins University, but Lucie studied creating Writing and Media, and Allie studied Economics.

3. What's your favorite twin moment?

One of our favorite twin moments has got to be the day we recorded this fun video for Refinery29

4. Do you see being a twin as a strength or weakness?

We absolutely see being twins as a HUGE strength. We support, encourage and push one another, and we're not competitive at all (it helps that we're in very different career fields).

5. Having chosen different career paths, do you think you would be able to swap places for one day?

We would NOT be able to swap places for a day! Not only do we not look similar enough to 'stand in' for the other, but Lucie wouldn't know any of the technical aspects of Allie's financial role, and Allie would be a little uncomfortable being on camera all day ;)

6. What do you think is the biggest misconception about twins?

We think the biggest misconception about twins is that all twins feel competitive and hate being grouped together constantly. We shared every single birthday party for our whole lives, we went to the same high school, camp and college, and we even borrowed clothes...yet we never felt that sense of competition or that need to be separated.

We actually found that the closer we were to one another physically, the more we were emotionally able to branch out, find our own 'thing' and build our own spaces. It's like the dependency paradox; we always knew the other was right there, so we felt more comfortable branching out.

If we hadn't gone to college together, we probably would have been constantly texting and calling the other and wouldn't have explored as much on campus.

7. What is the cheesiest twin joke anyone has pulled on you?

We've never had a 'cheesy twin joke' played on US, but we definitely like to make people chuckle by telling them that although Allie is 1 minute older, we were born as a c-section and (since Lucie was technically situated beneath Allie in the womb), if it had been a natural birth, Lucie would have come out first and been the older one!! Funny how things could have been so different if the doctor had pulled Lucie out first.

8. Is there any advice you wish you had received from other twins growing up?

We used to share a room but split off into our own bedrooms around the age of 8. If we could go back and tell our younger selves something, it would probably be to keep a spare bed in our rooms -- we LOVED having sleepovers!
